Pemberley Ball: Library

To escape from the crowded dance floor some ladies enter the Pemberley library to peruse the titles Mr. Darcy has acquired in his vast book collection.

We find Lady Kitteredge exploring the room. Although at present, books are the least on her mind...

I am Lady Arabella Kitteredge and I am thoroughly pleased to be invited to this lovely event. I am from Devonshire originally but after the death of my beloved husband Lord Kitteredge I moved to Sussex and have lived there quite comfortably for 8 years. I am very much looking forward to meeting Mr Darcy and Mr Wickham at the ball, and thank you again for giving me an excuse to purchase a beautiful ball gown!

I hope that we have suitable weather for this event so that we can all arrive and get home safely. I thoroughly enjoy the company of others because I rarely have a chance to attend such an amazing event, this will be the highlight of my year. Please take care and your generosity is much appreciated.

Perhaps Lady Kitteredge will find what (who) she is looking for in the room down the hall. I hear some raucous laughter from the Drawing Room.

Meanwhile, for those still in the library take a look at this new release. You may want to consider it for your shelves...

First Impressions:
A Novel of Old Books, Unexpected Love, and Jane Austen
by Charlie Lovett
Amazon | Goodreads

Book lover and Austen enthusiast Sophie Collingwood has recently taken a job at an antiquarian bookshop in London when two different customers request a copy of the same obscure book: the second edition of Little Book of Allegories by Richard Mansfield. Their queries draw Sophie into a mystery that will cast doubt on the true authorship of Pride and Prejudice—and ultimately threaten Sophie’s life.

In a dual narrative that alternates between Sophie’s quest to uncover the truth—while choosing between two suitors—and a young Jane Austen’s touching friendship with the aging cleric Richard Mansfield, Lovett weaves a romantic, suspenseful, and utterly compelling novel about love in all its forms and the joys of a life lived in books.
